Hungary hinders negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU

On February 14, Hungary opposed the opening of the first stage of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union, which covers the rule of law and is known as cluster "Fundamentals". About it reports the Polish edition of RMF24 .

The chairman of the EU Council, Poland, has prepared a document with clear conditions for the beginning of this stage. Two road cards are expected to develop from Ukraine:

  • The first is reforms in the rule of law,
  • The second - involves changes in public administration.

However, Budapest was the only country that opposed the adoption of this document. Hungary requires Ukraine to present a separate plan of measures to protect national minorities .

Due to this position, the opening of the "Fundamentals" cluster scheduled for April was threatened. In addition, two more procedural decisions, which can also be blocked by Hungary, need to be made to continue the process, notes RMF24.
