Hungary applied the veto right to delay Ukraine's promotion in the EU

In the process of Ukraine's accession to the European Union, a new obstacle has emerged. Hungary used the principle of unanimity of decisions to block further steps on the path of Ukraine to EU membership. This was reported by Viceremierk on European Integration and Minister of Justice of Ukraine Olga Stephanyshyn on a public discussion on the Ukrainian Lanch, held in Munich.

"While we are talking here, one Member State blocks Ukraine's introductory process to the EU-it happened literally yesterday," Stephanishina said without disclosing the details immediately. However, in the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, she confirmed that it was a matter of Hungary. This step of Hungary has already caused anxiety. Earlier, information emerged that it was Hungary that blocked the opening of the first negotiation cluster for Ukraine, which is an important stage on the way to EU accession. The government of Viktor Orban has repeatedly made pro -Russian statements and supported anti -Ukrainian initiatives in the EU. Recently, Budapest tried to block the continuation of sanctions against Russia, including freezing its financial assets. However, at the last stage, an agreement was reached, which avoided the risk of stopping sanctions: Hungary agreed to retreat, receiving from the EU guarantees on its "energy security".

This new blocking of the process is only another evidence of complex relations between Ukraine and Hungary, which emerged against the background of Russia's support and the interests of Hungary's national security. In the future, these obstacles can continue to delay Ukraine's progress on the EU.
