Ukraine agreed to the demilitarized area with Russia to cease fire

Special Representative of the US President for Ukraine Kit Kelloga said Ukraine agreed to create a temporary demilitarized zone, which could be the first step to the termination of hostilities. According to Kellog, Ukrainian and Russian troops can leave 15 kilometers from the front line, creating a 30-kilometer buffer zone.

He told about it on the air of Fox News. Kellogo said that such a zone should be clearly controlled and its observance should be carefully monitored by international observers. This initiative is supported by a "decisive coalition", which includes, in particular, the United Kingdom, France and Germany.

Kellogo stressed that the ceasefire involves fixing current control lines: each of the parties retains territories that holds at the time of stopping the fighting. He also stressed that this is not a final decision, but a temporary truce, which can be extended if the conditions are met within 30 days.

“It is very difficult to start fighting again after the fighting was stopped. I do not really think they will fight again, ”Kellog said, adding that political realities can change over time, as it was, for example, in the case of the unification of Germany after the Cold War.
