Ukraine and Britain signed a historic security agreement

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister of Britain, Richa Snak, signed a historical security treaty between Ukraine and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This document became the first in the field of security agreements and is the implementation of the agreements reached at the NATO Vilnius Summit.

The Treaty, called the "Security Cooperation Agreement" provides for the UK's security obligations to Ukraine before NATO's accession. This allows Ukraine to obtain security guarantees from one of the partner countries.

President Zelensky expressed his conviction that if such guarantees were received in 1991, the war in Ukraine could be avoided. He emphasized the importance of this document as a true step to strengthening international security and cooperation.

For his part, Risha Snak noted that this is the "first of the security assurances" that Ukraine receives, and emphasized the role of Great Britain in giving Ukraine lethal weapons and other important resources.

The contract stipulates within ten years with the possibility of continuation. However, in the case of Ukraine's accession to NATO, security will be completed and integrated into the Alliance system.

What else is known:
-annual financial assistance of 2.5 billion pounds ($ 3 billion) is guaranteed. This is the greatest assistance from Britain since February 2022.
-Expands cooperation in intelligence and cybersecurity;
-This is the first contract in the field of security agreements for the implementation of agreements in Vilnius between NATO and Ukraine.

This document is an important step in Ukraine to strengthen international status and security.
