The Government of Ukraine has reacted to the beginning of the confiscation of the Russian cargo aircraft An-124 Ruslan, which has been at Toronto Airport since February 2022. According to Olga Stephanyshyn's Viceremier-Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, the confiscation claim was filed after the relevant decision of the Ukrainian High Anti-Corruption Court was filed.
"This is a common result of the painstaking work of employees of the Ministry of Justice and the Foreign Ministry in close cooperation with Canadian partners," she stressed.
Confiscation takes place within the Canadian Law on Special Economic Measures, which allows the assets of persons or companies that are subject to sanctions. In this case, it is a transport aircraft owned by the Russian airline Volga-Dnepr.
Currently, the final decision on confiscation must be made by the High Court of Ontario. The aircraft remained in Canada since the beginning of a full -scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine, when the airspace for Russian airlines was closed.
