Ukraine has initiated a new proposal for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States, which should be an important step in strengthening the country's energy security and weakening Russia's impact on the world markets. This was stated by Presidential Office Andriy Ermak in his column for Houston Chronicle .
According to Yermak, strategic cooperation with Washington in the field of LNG supply will reduce Ukraine's dependence on Russian energy resources and ensure stable energy supply. He stressed that Kiev is already negotiating with US companies on the purchase of liquefied gas, which in the future will allow to expand the possibilities of import and promote Ukraine's energy independence.
"Increasing the supply of American liquefied natural gas to Ukraine should become part of a broader strategy that will reduce Russia's impact on energy markets. Constant gas supply from the United States will reduce price volatility, weaken Russia's ability to manipulate energy markets and reduce the risks associated with artificial deficits.
A number of European countries are already actively expanding the infrastructure for LNG imports. In particular, Germany, Poland and Baltic states are actively investing in the construction of new terminals for the reception of liquefied gas. Ukraine also has a potential for the development of LNG infrastructure, which will expand the opportunities for stable gas supplies from the United States.
Ukraine has a unique geographical location and branched gas transportation system, which allows to transport considerable amounts of energy both domestically and European countries. That is why US LNG can not only strengthen Ukraine's energy security, but also strengthen the overall stability of the European gas market.
Exports of liquefied gas to Ukraine have strategic and economic benefits for the United States. LNG production and supply helps to create new jobs, attract investment in gas infrastructure and increase economic production. Expanding the energy in the energy sphere will strengthen the role of the United States as a reliable energy supplier in the world market.
"If representatives of the Trump administration and business leaders consider the future of US energy policy, it is important that Ukraine is a priority to make a large-scale, long-term purchases of American liquefied natural gas," Yermak stressed.
After the war, Ukraine will require considerable effort to restore the economy. Cooperation with the US in the field of energy can be a key element in the country's post -war revival. Reliable LNG deliveries will help to strengthen economic stability, support the reconstruction of critical infrastructure and promote the sustainable development of Ukraine.
"Improving energy security and stability of energy supply will become an important basis for the restoration of Ukraine's economy and strengthening its position in the international arena," Yermak summed up.
In general, Ukraine's initiative to LNG is an important step not only for energy security, but also for political and economic cooperation with one of the key strategic partners - the United States.
