According to The Economist , mobilization in Ukraine causes serious problems. The publication notes that many Ukrainians perceive a call as a "one -way ticket" because of the uncertainty of service conditions and the lack of clear timing of demobilization. This situation has created tensions among military and citizens.
Mobilization problems
One of the main difficulties is that much of the recruits are not ready for hostilities. Officers complain about the quality of the mobilized: many of them are the elderly or with poor health. Also common problem is alcoholism among the military, which undermines the combat capability of the units.
In addition, the situation is complicated by the absence of specific timing of demobilization. This causes uncertainty and psychological exhaustion among servicemen, which leads to an increase in the number of deserters. It is estimated that about 5-10% of the military left the service arbitrarily.
Although the Ukrainian authorities are actively pursuing deserters, the publication notes that these measures do not create as serious fear among the population as Putin's repressive regime in Russia. However, the problem of mass refusals to mobilize is becoming more acute, which is concerned about the further combat capability of the Ukrainian army.
