Ukrainian refugees in Germany will remain without assistance

The Secretary-General of the German Party Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Karsten Linnemann has made a proposal to fully abolish social benefits for those who refuse to work, including Ukrainian refugees. In an interview with the Funke Media Group Linnenmann, more than 100,000 social assistance recipients did not want to work, and expressed the opinion that current incentive measures are insufficient.

Linnenmann stressed that Ukrainians protect freedom, but obtaining social benefits should be related to certain obligations. In his opinion, reducing assistance by 10, 20 or 30 percent is insufficient. He believes that more rigid sanctions should be imposed for those who do not want to work, except for single parents and persons who care for relatives.

The proposal Linnensmann is contrary to the decision of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany, which in 2019 ruled that the full reduction of social assistance is unacceptable and sanctions should not be excessive.

Against the backdrop of these statements, the leader of the Party of the Christian and Social Union (CSU) Marcus Zeder spoke about the possibility of returning to Ukraine the military who received asylum in Germany if Ukraine asks for it.
