Ukrainian refugees in Europe risk being on the street due to bureaucratic obstacles

According to reports published by the British newspaper The Guardian, some of the Ukrainian refugees who fled to Europe because of the war are facing serious difficulties in accessing protection and assistance. Bureaucratic obstacles threaten their safety and stability, forcing many of them to risk ending up on the streets.

For example, in Great Britain, more than 9,000 Ukrainian families may be left homeless due to a reduction in the number of landlords offering housing and insufficient support from local authorities.

In Poland, which has taken in almost a million Ukrainian refugees, public sentiment has shifted due to concerns about social benefits. This month the authorities called for EU benefits for men of conscription age to be scrapped, saying it encouraged evaders.

In Hungary, the government recently suspended housing assistance for thousands of Ukrainian refugees who came from western regions of Ukraine that Budapest had deemed "safe" to return to, despite Russian missile strikes.
