Ukrzaliznytsia is ready to increase cargo flows through Izmail, but there are problems with Reni

During the Ukrainian Transport Forum 2025, which was recently held, the issue of building Eurocolia between the Moldovan Station of Dzhurguleshta and the Ukrainian ports of Renny and Izmail was actively discussed. About it reports the edition "Rail.insider", citing information "Bessarabia Inform".

The Deputy Director of the Department of Transportation and Commercial Work of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC Valery Tkachev commented on the initiative, emphasizing that the company has in the plans, first of all, the development of Eurocolia to Lviv with further possible connection with Kiev and Odessa. “There are no problems on the transportation of goods to Izmail. This is our territory, so we are ready to increase the volume of transportation as much as possible in this direction, ”the UZ representative said.

At the same time, as Tkachov emphasized, the route to Rena involves the transit territory of Moldova, which creates some difficulties. For several years, Ukrainian and Moldovan railways discussed the issues of discounts on tariffs for transit transportation, as they are much higher than Ukrainian - by 50-70%. Although a potential solution has been found, it has not yet been possible. “The laying of Eurocolia from Jurgulesh to Reni can be a good option when we find a common language with Moldova and a considerable cargo will appear. Today it is minimal, and therefore it is not advisable to invest in this direction in this difficult time. However, if the economy begins to grow and sends to Reni, we will look at this option, ”Valery Tkachov emphasized.

Thus, the development of Eurocolies remains an important issue for improving logistics in the region. At the same time, the success of the project depends largely on the interaction between Ukraine and Moldova, tariff policy and volume of freight flows.
