The President of the European Commission Ursula von Der Lyen was forced to abolish a number of official measures due to the severe form of pneumonia. The information about the diagnosis was confirmed by the European Commission spokesman Stefan de Keermaker.
According to the spokesman, the state of health of Ursula von der Lien does not allow her to participate in public events during the first two weeks of January. Important meetings, including Lisbon's speech and planned trip to Gdansk on the occasion of the Polish presidency at the Council of the European Union, have been canceled.
Ursula von Der Lyen is a key political figure in the European Union, and the temporary absence of the president may affect the schedule and work of the European Commission. At the same time, her team continues to work on the implementation of EU strategic initiatives as Fon Der Liaien is under treatment.
The European Community and International Political Circles have expressed support to the president and wished her a speedy recovery.
