Hungary made a sharp statement about two employees of the Ukrainian Embassy in Budapest, accusing them of espionage. This was announced on Friday, May 9, Hungary Foreign Minister Peter Siarto in his post on the social network Facebook.
According to the chairman of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, both diplomats, called "Ukrainian spies", allegedly acted under diplomatic cover. They worked at the Embassy of Ukraine in Budapest. Siarto did not specify what kind of activity they were attributed to these persons, but stated that the decision on their expulsion was already made and brought to the Ukrainian side.
“We are no longer going to endure the constant defamatory actions of Kiev against our country. The last campaign has the same reason as all the previous ones: we, the Hungarians, want peace, say no "war" and do not supply or supply weapons to Ukraine, "Siarto stressed.
According to him, the relevant documents and the list of persons subject to the extermination have already been transferred to Ukrainian Aviation in Budapest directly in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ukrainian side has not officially commented on the accusations, but such steps can be exacerbated by the already complex relationships between Kiev and Budapest. From the beginning of the full -scale war of Russia against Ukraine, Hungary has repeatedly advocated, which was different from the general course of the European Union, in particular, blocked joint decisions on military assistance to Ukraine.
It should be reminded that Ukraine has repeatedly criticized Hungary for proximity to the Kremlin and attempts to maintain neutrality in war issues, while other European states are actively supporting Ukraine financially, politically and military.
Political observers predict that the current diplomatic incident may have consequences in the form of a decrease in bilateral contact or symmetrical actions by Ukraine.
