The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has made a decision on the completion of two power units of the Khmelnytsky Nuclear Power Plant. The corresponding bill was supported by 261 MPs from 226 required during the voting on February 11.
The document stipulates that Energoatom will receive permission to purchase the reactor plants required to complete the construction in Bulgaria. In the future, the government should update the project budget, after which the Parliament will re -consider the final permission to be completed.
The construction of additional power units of the KhNPP was initiated in September 2020, when President Vladimir Zelensky instructed to accelerate the implementation of this project. Ukraine plans to buy reactors in Bulgaria for $ 600 million.
The completion of KhNPP units is an important step towards increasing the country's energy independence and strengthening its atomic generation.
