Winter is approaching: power cuts in Ukraine

With the onset of the cold and the deterioration of weather conditions, the energy system of Ukraine faces significant challenges. The electricity disconnection situation varies depending on the degree of damage to the energy infrastructure and the ability of the regions to meet the needs of electricity independently.

According to Stanislav Ignatiev, the Chairman of the Council of the Ukrainian Association of Renewable Energy, Kyiv and Kyiv region were among the most vulnerable regions. The schedule is currently operating with power supply and 4 hours without, but with the deterioration of weather conditions, this mode can be stiffer.

"Due to the reduction of solar generation through an anticyclone that will bring rain, snow and frost, the situation may deteriorate. In Kiev, shutdowns in the scheme 4 after 4 hours or even 6 through 4," Ignatiev said on the air of Kyiv 24.

The situation in other regions depends on the state of local energy facilities and access to alternative energy sources. Ivano-Frankivsk region: thanks to partial restoration of power supply from Burshtyn TPP and the operation of small solar stations, there are restrictions here-2 hours without light, 4 hours. Khmelnitsky: In this region, 4 hours with disconnections are operating in this region, which is stable due to local energy production. Other areas: regions with less infrastructure damage or renewable sources show more resilience. For example, areas with powerful local generations are easier to withstand deficiency.

Experts predict the transition of the power system of Ukraine to the so -called "island" regime. Each region will be obliged to provide itself with electricity autonomously, without significant support from the nationwide network.

This mode requires the development of local energy sources, such as small solar or wind stations that will help reduce deficiency. However, further complication of the energy situation is expected, especially in regions that do not have access to alternative sources or stable local generation.
