The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Luxembourg, Xavier Bethel, emphasized that sending NATO troops to Ukraine will be the Alliance's actual entry into the war with Russia. He stated this during the discussion of support for Ukraine in Brussels.
"Troops on the battlefield mean war. We have to do everything to avoid an uncontrolled "fire", which can turn into a much bigger conflict," Bethel emphasized.
The minister also noted that, despite the limitation of direct military intervention, NATO and EU members should actively support Ukraine. According to him, assistance to Ukraine is important not only for its victory, but also for protecting the interests of allies. "We must not forget that Ukrainians are also fighting for us," he added.
Commenting on the possible impact of political change in the US, Bethel mentioned Donald Trump's declaration of peace in 24 hours, saying: "I can't wait to see how he implements it." However, the minister expressed concern that the US's refusal to support Ukraine could trigger a "domino effect", according to which other partners would reduce their aid to Kyiv: "It would be terrible."
Thus, Bethel emphasized the need for further consolidation of allied efforts to support Ukraine at all levels.
