Visit to the US was a preparation for the dialogue of Zelensky and Trump

The Office of the President of Ukraine confirmed that the potential meeting of President Vladimir Zelensky with President Donald Trump is underway. This was stated by the head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak, noting that such a meeting can take place in the fields of the seven group summit, which will be held on June 15-17 in Canada.

According to Yermak, one of the key tasks of a recent Ukrainian delegation to the United States has been the preparation for dialogue between the two leaders. The delegation was headed by the First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko.

"Our visit was a preparation, including the meeting between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and President Trump in the G7 meeting fields in Canada, which will take place in 10 days. It was one of the important steps of preparing this conversation," Yermak said.

The expected meeting can be the first personal conversation of Zelensky and Trump from the moment of returning the last to the post of President of the United States. Considering the change in Washington's approaches to the support of Kiev, negotiations can be crucial for further Ukrainian-American relations, especially in the context of military assistance, financing the defense sector and sanction policy on Russia.

Yermak also reported that, as part of the visit to the United States, meetings with US congressmen took place, which confirmed their willingness to continue Ukraine's military support. It was, in particular, to supply weapons not only to Ukraine but also to partner states that help in its defense.

In addition, Ukraine expects the US Senate's approval to a draft law on strengthening sanctions against the Russian Federation. The document also provides secondary sanctions on third countries and companies that contribute to the Russian Federation in the extortion of already imposed restrictions.

"Ukraine expects that the US Senate will support the bill to strengthen sanctions against Russia and to impose secondary restrictions on countries and companies that help the aggressor state to circumvent sanctions," Yermak emphasized.

In Kiev, it is emphasized that a dialogue with Washington remains a critical factor in strengthening the country's defense capability, especially against the background of threats to further escalation by Russia.
