In November 2023, during construction work in Furth, Germany, ancient remains of a trade route owned by the early modern period were revealed, affecting both local residents and scientists. A group of builders in the Burgrhrnbach area found the remains of ancient wooden flooring under the surface during the street repair.
Now the excavations of this ancient path, which once connected Nuremberg and Frankfurt, is controlled by the Bavarian State Directorate for the Protection of Monuments. Archaeologists pay special attention to the study of wooden boards that once asserted the road, hoping to open new tips about the past.
This discovery has become an important information for historians, as the rapid development of modernity often covers or even destroys historical monuments. The archaeological significance of this finding is emphasized by the fact that the records from 1592 testify to the importance of this place as a trade path between Nuremberg and Frankfurt.
The dendrochronological dating of pine boards found during excavations showed that they were used in 1773. In addition to the path, archaeologists have discovered buttons, horseshoes and even a silver coin from the early modern period. These artifacts, along with found records from the chronicles of 1790, help to recreate the history of the area, including a solemn procession with imperial jewelry.
Conservation efforts are aimed at preserving this particularly well -preserved path for future research and public display in order to further disclose the historical and cultural aspects of this unique archeological find.
