In 2025, for the free crossing of the border of Ukraine on the car, drivers need to carefully prepare a package of documents. This is especially true for traveling to neighboring countries - Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Moldova. The current requirements are reminiscent of the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
If the passengers are the owner of the car, he must have with him: the national driver's license with the current term; Certificate of registration of the vehicle; Ukraine's distinctive sign by car; compulsory civil liability insurance (the so -called "green card") that extends to the country of the trip; vehicle license plate. It should be borne in mind that some countries may require a confirmation of the technical condition of the car in the form of a corresponding protocol. If the driver is not the owner of the car, then he also needs to have a certificate of registration of the vehicle issued in his name for the trip.
Since the beginning of 2025, the rules of registration of the Green Card have changed: the insurance begins to operate not on the day of its design, but from 00:00 the next day after entering the data in the single centralized MTIBU base. This means that drivers should be insured at least a day before departure. In addition, the absence of a valid Green Card Certificate can cause the border crossing. It should also be noted that since 2025 the insurance certificate can be presented electronically, in particular stored on a mobile device. However, Ukrainian drivers are advised to print insurance to avoid misunderstandings.
