How intense training affects the immune system: new findings

Sport is always associated with health, but the study of scientists of the Pacific Northwestern National Laboratory shows that excessive intensive training can adversely affect the immune system.

A group of researchers studied the condition of firefighters after heavy training, analyzing blood plasma, urine and saliva of 11 participants. Firefighters loaded with 20 kg of equipment ran a considerable distance of a hilly place for 45 minutes.

The results of the tests indicate signs of immunity inhibition with long -standing exhausting training. Bioanalytic chemist Christine Berneum-Johnson explains that the study is aimed at studying the danger of exhaustion in its early stages.

The study revealed changes in the oral microbiom of participants and reducing the number of inflammatory molecules in saliva after exercise. This can be an adaptive mechanism for improving gas exchange according to the increased need for oxygen cells. However, it also affects the body's ability to fight infections.

Ernesto Biomedic Nakayasa notes that people in good physical form can be more prone to respiratory viral infections immediately after intense exercise. This indicates the importance of understanding the impact of long training on the immune system and taking measures to support it.

The study found that although moderate physical activity has a positive effect on the immune system, prolonged intense training can lead to immunity suppression. Athletes and coaches should be careful about this aspect and develop individual training plans to maintain optimal health and endurance.
