As war and financial factors influence the choice of Ukrainian students

Departure children with parents abroad remains a serious problem for Ukraine. During the war, not only 17-year-old boys try to avoid mobilization, but also girls go abroad. One of the reasons for this decision is the increase in the cost of study in higher educational establishments of Ukraine.

Nadiya Leshchyk told this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine. She noted that there are no accurate data on the number of children who leave, as many of them switch to distance learning and are not formally calculated from schools. The standard situation in Ukrainian schools is that a number of children begin to study in grades 10-11, and it ends much less. This testifies to the mass departure of students or the transition to other forms of study.

According to statistics, in 2025, 312 490 people were registered on the national multi -enthusiasm (NMT) - 18% less than last year. At the same time 20 071 the child passed a test abroad. Most of the countries where Ukrainian youth leave do not require NMT, which simplifies the process of joining foreign universities. Nadezhda Leshchyk emphasizes the need for a state strategy that would encourage young people and their parents to stay in Ukraine. After all, parents mostly decide to travel abroad.

“I communicated with my parents who made such decisions. They drew attention to the ambiguity of mobilization applications from the age of 18, as well as the increase in the cost of contract training. It also influences the desire to seek education abroad, ”says the educational Ombudsman.
