What is the population expected in Ukraine in 2033

Director of the Institute of Demography and Social Research. M. Ptukha, Ella Libanova, makes alarming predictions about the population of Ukraine in 2033, arguing that the situation will be much worse than it could be imagined. According to her, the population can be in the range of 26 to 35 million people.

"We did a variation of the forecast for 2033, for 10 years we made: from 26 to 35 million in the borders of 1991," Libanova stressed.

The scientist emphasized that it is no longer about returning to a 45 million population, which threatened potential demographic growth.

"It is a long conversation about the potential of demographic growth, about the old population, about losses due to low birth rates, about the loss of excessive mortality, especially men, to which migration has been added, which has become a head driver of demographic dynamics today - everything is bad, very bad," Libanova emphasized.

Earlier, the scientist expressed optimistic views on the possibility of returning migrants, but now she notes that Ukraine will not be able to return more than half of the migrant military. She also expressed the opinion that the state should not be given preferences for the return of migrants who left Ukraine as a result of war.

These forecasts leave questions about the future of Ukraine and emphasize the need to consider demographic policies and measures to support the population.
