The EBRD will provide Ukraine with 270 million euros for gas purchase

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved a loan of 270 million euros for Naftogaz. These funds are intended for the purchase of natural gas, which will allow Ukraine to accumulate sufficient stocks for the stable passing of heating seasons in 2025-2026. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmigal announced this on March 26.

In addition, the Norway Government through the EBRD will provide 140 million euros of grant support, which will also be aimed at ensuring Ukraine's energy security.

Due to Russian aggression, Ukraine is constantly faced with challenges in the energy sector. The enemy has repeatedly attacked critical infrastructure, trying to destroy the country's energy supply system.

In such circumstances, it is important to prepare in advance for winter, providing stable gas stocks in underground storage. The allocated funds will allow the government not only to stabilize the situation, but also to avoid the energy crisis that can threaten the population in the cold.

According to the prime minister, the received funding will contribute to the stable functioning of the gas market of Ukraine. Naftogaz is expected to buy additional fuel volumes that will allow:

  • Ensure reliable energy supply to the population and enterprises.

  • Avoid gas deficiency in case of unpredictable circumstances.

  • Increase the country's energy security in war.

It is worth noting that the EBRD does not support Ukraine for the first time in this direction. Earlier, the Bank has already allocated considerable funds for gas purchases and financing critical infrastructure.

Grant financing of 140 million euros from the Norway Government is another important step in strengthening Ukraine's energy independence. Norway remains a key partner of Ukraine in the energy sector, in particular in the supply of gas and renewable energy.

Earlier, the Norwegian government has already provided financial support for energy purchasing, helping Ukraine to take difficult winter during the war.

Despite the positive news about financing, the situation in the energy sector of Ukraine remains difficult. Russia continues purposeful attacks on critical infrastructure, trying to provoke a large -scale energy crisis.

However, thanks to the support of international partners, Ukraine has the opportunity to stabilize the situation and maintain control of energy resources.

In general, the provision of funds from the EBRD and Norway will allow:
✔️ Provide a stable supply of gas in underground storage.
✔️ Reduce energy risks for the country.
✔️ Prepare for possible crisis situations in winter.

The funding received will be an important step in ensuring Ukraine's energy security in war and will allow the country to look confidently in the future.
