The European Commission and the Moldova Government have agreed on a two -year energy independence strategy, which provides for financing of 250 million euros in 2025. This was reported in the official communique of the EC.
The strategy is aimed at:
- Reduction of Moldova's dependence on Russian energy resources.
- The country's integration into the European energy market.
As part of this initiative, the European Union will provide the first 100 million euros by mid -April 2025.
Part of the funds - 60 million euros - will be offered to the inhabitants of Transnistria, but under certain conditions.
"This assistance will depend on measures to observe fundamental freedoms and human rights in the Transnistrian region and will not include energy -intensive activities," the European Commission stressed.
A separate package of assistance is aimed at supporting the Moldovan households that face high electricity prices. The European Commission expects that this mechanism will make up for all additional consumer electricity costs, which use up to 110 kWh per month. The program will be valid until December 31, 2025.
Against the backdrop of energy difficulties, Moldova and Transnistria signed a contract for the supply of 3 million cubic meters of gas to maintain the functioning of the Dniester gas system. This stock should be enough for 10 days under the conditions of fan shutdowns and reduction of enterprises.
Thus, the EU continues to actively maintain the energy stability of Moldova, reducing its dependence on Russian energy resources and integrating it into the European energy network.
