The European Union has presented a new security strategy aimed at ensuring the stability, security and sustainable development of the Black Sea. The initiative is intended to strengthen the links between the countries of the region and to promote economic growth, as well as to increase the role of the EU as a reliable partner in the Black Sea basin, especially in the conditions of Russia's war against Ukraine.
The strategy is based on three main directions. The first is to increase safety, stability and stability in the region. Within this direction, it is planned to create a Black Sea Center for Marine Security, which will strengthen the protection of marine infrastructure, protection of the environment and will improve coordination of efforts in the demining of territories.
The second direction is to promote sustainable development and economic growth. This provides for the implementation of a special connection program, which is agreed with trans -European transport, energy and digital networks. This will enhance the role of the Black Sea region as a key transport corridor that connects Europe with South Caucasus and Central Asia, and will promote the growth of the economy of the region.
The third direction of the strategy is the environment, adaptation to climate change and civil protection development. The EU plans to increase the readiness of coastal communities and the "blue economy" sectors to resist the challenges related to war and climatic changes, as well as to maintain sustainable development in these areas.
The strategy also involves close cooperation with the countries of the Black Sea region, including Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan. The EU activates regional projects for the development of transport, energy and digital infrastructure, supporting the aspirations of these countries for European integration.
The new plan is integrated with other key European initiatives such as Global Gateway, Eastern Partnership and EU expansion process. This will not only increase the security of the region, but also promote investment, reforms and sustainable development of the Black Sea basin.
Given the strategic importance of the Black Sea for trade, energy and security, as well as the continued destabilization of the region through the war, the new EU strategy is an important step to ensure long -term stability and prosperity in the Black Sea region.
