The EU approved the allocation of €4 billion to support Ukraine

The European Commission has approved the allocation of 4 billion euros of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine within the framework of the Ukraine Facility program. This decision was announced by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who emphasized that the EU continues to support Ukraine, particularly against the background of almost three years of brutal war with Russia. She noted that this payment is part of the aid package aimed at strengthening Ukraine's macroeconomic stability and supporting important reforms in the country.

"The 1,000th day of the brutal war waged by Russia is approaching, and we will help support the Ukrainian state as it fights for survival. We are here for the long haul," von der Leyen wrote in her address.

The allocation of funds still needs to be approved by the Council of the European Union, but Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has already thanked the European Commission for its support, stressing that this financial assistance strengthens Ukraine's economic stability and promotes the implementation of important reforms. Shmyhal also emphasized that the EU positively assesses Ukraine's fulfillment of the terms of the Plan for Ukraine, which is reflected in the amount of funding.

"The EC's positive assessment of the allocation of €4.1 billion to Ukraine within the framework of the Ukraine Facility, which in total amounts to €16.1 billion in 2024, emphasizes our success in fulfilling all the conditions laid down in the Plan for Ukraine," he said in his statement .

The package of support for Ukraine, which the EU agreed to in February 2024 at the summit in Brussels, includes financing in the amount of 50 billion euros until 2027. This strategic partnership ensures the stability and reform of Ukraine's economy in wartime conditions.

It should be noted that Ukraine received the first tranches of aid without preconditions, but further financing will depend on Kyiv fulfilling the necessary requirements within the defined Plan of Ukraine.
