Europe is debating who supports the mission of peacekeepers in Ukraine

European countries have different views on the possible sending of peacekeeping forces to Ukraine in case of ceasefire. The United Kingdom, France and Northern Europe support this initiative, while Germany and a number of other countries oppose.

The Times reported that the Baltic countries and Poland are concerned that the proposed mission could distract NATO resources bordering on Russia, leaving them without proper protection.

According to the source in the British government, Europe has the opportunity to form a ground forces for a peacekeeping mission. At the same time, the ministers have asked the United States to provide a "air cover" for a mission that could include Patriot anti -aircraft missile systems to protect against ballistic missiles and air strikes.

The British army is theoretically ready to send the contingent from 10,000 to 25,000 servicemen. However, this can be complicated by the British forces already placed in Estonia.

Some experts consider an alternative to the UN peacekeeping forces that may consist of military India, Bangladesh and China. This, according to analysts, may be more likely to approve from Russia and reduce the risk of conflict. According to this proposal, up to 100,000 peacekeepers can be placed both in Ukraine and in Russia, which would avoid direct involvement of the United States.

"They (Russians) are not going to attack Bangladesh or Indians," the source said, emphasizing the possible effectiveness of such an operation.

Germany expresses skepticism on sending peacekeepers because of uncertainty related to the upcoming elections. European diplomats say that the involvement of the United States to strengthen Russia is necessary because Washington has military opportunities that are lacking in Europe.

The issue of the peacekeeping mission is expected to be discussed at the meeting of Kira Starmer with EU leaders and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Brussels.
