Under difficult international conditions around the war in Ukraine, Europe is looking for new mechanisms to strengthen security and stability on the continent. According to Politico sources, one of the key initiatives is to send about 30,000 European peacekeepers to Ukraine, which should become a symbol of support for Ukraine's sovereignty in its fight against Russian aggression.
This step is part of diplomatic efforts aimed at strengthening unity among traditional allies of Ukraine, as well as influencing US President Donald Trump so that he will maintain his support for Ukraine in the face of global political turbulence. In particular, French President Emmanuel Macron is already in Washington, where he meets Trump to convince him of the importance of strategic partnership with Europe and the inadmissibility of the "victim" of Ukraine in geopolitical negotiations with Russia. European leaders focus on bilateral diplomacy to ensure security in Ukraine, in particular through the deployment of peacekeepers and joint military support. France and the United Kingdom, which have assumed a leading role in this process, discuss the placement of a peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine if ceasefire is reached.
In addition to military assistance, the European Union and the United Kingdom plan to intensify their economic support for Ukraine, in particular by allocating at least 20 billion euros to finance restoration and development. While Macron continues his diplomatic efforts in Washington, the European Union, together with the Allies, is preparing for the "demonstration of force" in Kiev. EU leaders, including the President of the European Commission Ursula von Der Lyen and the head of the European Council of Anthony Right, as well as other representatives of the Member States plan to visit the capital of Ukraine. This visit will be confirmed by the permanent support of President Vladimir Zelensky and his government in the context of a new political dynamics that unfolds around US and Europe positions.
Despite the uncertainty and sometimes contradictory assessments of the situation by Washington, Europe intends to support Ukraine by developing alternative security strategies for the continent. Although diplomacy from the United States remains an important aspect, European states are actively working on creating their own security guarantees to avoid excessive dependence on US decisions.
