The countries of the European Union consider the possibility of purchasing ammunition for Ukraine in third countries, if the promised delivery of a million shells until March is not fulfilled.
A high -ranking French diplomat: "Until we come to this conclusion, we will refrain from purchases abroad, but if we are forced to adapt, we will do it."
Journalists noted that this decision contradicts the traditional position of France aimed at supporting national governments in the procurement of their own weapons and ammunition in Europe.
"If you do not stimulate production, we will remain in this cycle. But we are ready to change approaches to help Ukraine," the diplomat said.
Latvia President Edgar Rinkevich has expressed support for the idea of purchasing ammunition in third countries. Another European representative indicated that weapons are not important for Ukraine.
Currently, European partners have only transferred a third of the promised number of shells. The director of the European Foreign Action Service on Peace, Security and Defense Benedict von Zeerr-Those believes that Ukraine will still receive a million ammunition.
"The question is whether we can accomplish the task by March or 2024?" -added von Zeerr-Ts.
