Among the neutralized botnets were Icedid, Smokeloader, Systembc, Pikabot and Bumblebee.
The operation, called the Final Operation, was headed by France, Germany and the Netherlands, attracting several other countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States and Ukraine. German Minister of Internal Affairs Nancy Feser called this operation "the greatest and most sensible shot in cybercrime today." The police investigation led to the deployment of infrastructure used for mass attacks by warrior programs around the world, which led to data encryption and further blackload, causing significant economic damage.
One of the arrests took place in Armenia, while three other persons were detained in Ukraine. Law enforcement officers are currently controling more than 2000 domains related to these criminal acts. The malicious software allowed cybercriminals to secretly interfere with computers for criminal acts. According to the investigation, one of the main suspects has earned at least 69 million euros ($ 75 million) in cryptocurrency, leasing infrastructure for deployment of warriors.
