The Russian authorities have announced new restrictions on YouTube platform concerning the slowdown in the speed of video playback to 128 kilobps per second for home Internet. This information was reported by The Moscow Times.
According to reports, Russian regulators decided not to turn off completely, but to slow down the work of YouTube. This solution is implemented with the help of specialized TSPU equipment (technical means of counteracting threats) installed on the networks of communication operators and under the control of Roskomnzor. The introduction of these restrictions significantly slows down the speed of video on the platform for users of home Internet, but the mobile Internet continues to provide an acceptable speed of playback, although with a small degradation of quality.
The Russian authorities did not reveal their further plans for YouTube and other Google services. However, there are reports of closing access to all Google services in Russia. This warning was provided to the Subscribers of the Moscow provider onC24, who advised users to switch to alternative platforms.
"We, as a provider, cannot influence the situation. Please come true. We assume that in the future, access to all Google services will be completely closed, so we recommend moving to alternative platforms," the provider said. This message was later removed from the site.
