Western countries are holding back Ukraine's support for concern for escalation of a conflict with Russia, which prevents Ukraine from getting a decisive weapon for victory. This was stated by the former head of the UK General Staff, General Patrick Sanders in an interview for The Times, emphasizing that the best way to stop the conflict is to create unacceptable threats to Russia.
General Sanders noted that the event exceeded the importance of the so -called "red lines" of Vladimir Putin and overestimated Russia's reaction to support Ukraine. He criticized the fear of escalation, which forced the West to refrain from providing Ukraine with decisive assistance in the early stages of the war.
"We restrain ourselves because we allowed the Russians to get what we can call 'escalating dominance' when we were restrained from decisive support that we could provide Ukraine in the early stages, fearing what the Russians would do," Sanders said.
The general stressed that there is now a critical moment when Ukraine has to get everything necessary for winning. According to him, the assistance of Ukraine should be directed not only to survival in the battlefield, but also to the creation of threats to Russia, which would force Putin to review his aggressive policy.
Sanders also warned against attempts to conclude a peace agreement that could lead to a new aggression by Russia. In his opinion, Russia's war against Ukraine is "almost racial", and the Kremlin's purpose is to ensure Ukraine's complete enslavement.
"It is very difficult to understand where to conclude an agreement. Because any agreement is most likely only a temporary rest. Or you will give Putin what he wants, which is essentially capitulation. Autocrats and dictators around the world that do not adhere to our value system, ”Sanders emphasized.
