The West cannot make a final decision regarding the confiscation of frozen Russian assets

France, Germany and the European Central Bank are the main opponents of confiscation of frozen Russian assets, Bloomberg reports, citing sources.

They are concerned about the Kremlin's relevant measures on European assets in the Russian Federation, the impact on financial stability and the status of the euro as a reserve currency.

Leading EU countries believe that such a step will create a precedent, forcing other countries to avoid storing their reserves in the western currencies in case they are subject to similar penalties.

"We now have no legal grounds for arrest of Russian assets. We need to work more," French Minister LE MESU said on Wednesday after a meeting of the Great Seven Finance Ministers in San Paulo.

We will remind, some countries propose to simply confiscate assets or use them as a pledge to take money in debt and transfer to Ukraine.

At the same time, the United States, who most speak of the need to confiscate assets, say they cannot do so, because Baiden has no authority yet.
