Europe must create its own armed forces to confront Russian aggression. The time is coming. This statement was made by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky during a speech at the main session of the Munich Conference on Saturday, February 15.
“I believe in Europe. And you have to believe. And I urge you to act for yourself and for the sake of Europe - people of Europe, your peoples, your homes, your children and our common future. To do this, Europe should become self -sufficient - united common force, Ukrainian and European, ”he said.
According to him, Europe should become self -sufficient and combine its force with Ukraine.
“Without the Ukrainian army, European armies will not be enough to stop Russia. It's reality now. Only our army in Europe has a real, modern experience of war. But only our army is not enough. And we need what you can give - weapons, training, sanctions, financing, political pressure and unity, ”the head of state said.
Zelensky warned that the possibility of the United States could not say to Europe "no" in matters that threaten it.
“Many leaders have said that Europe needs its own armed forces - the Army of Europe. I think this time has come. Europe's armed forces must be created, ”he summarized.
At the same time, Zelensky said that such armed forces would not be a substitute for NATO.
“It is about making Europe's contribution to our partnership equal to America's contribution. And we need the same approach when it comes to diplomacy - working together in the name of peace, ”he explained.
