The law on "foreign agents" threatens the integration of Georgia into the EU - say the deputies of the European Parliament

On Tuesday, during a press conference in Strasbourg, representatives of the leading political groups of the European Parliament declared the potential consequences of the adoption of the Law on "Inaging" in Georgia, which is now being considered by Parliament. This law, which is similar to such legislation in Russia, can stop the process of Georgia's European integration and lead to the revocation of its status as a candidate country, which was assigned to it last December.

Representatives of the European Union Parliament expressed serious reservations on this bill. Lithuanian deputy Piatras Autryvichius, a representative of the Renew Europe Political Group, noted that the Law on Georgia's "Inaging" not only does not meet European standards, but may also threaten the country's journey to membership in the European Union.

German politician Viola von Kragon, a representative of the Green Political Group, who always supported the European integration of Georgia, also expressed his outrage about the possible adoption of this law. She stressed that if the law is adopted, it would be considered a violation of the principles of European democracy and aimed at suppressing non -governmental NGOs and independent media.

According to Viola von Kragon, the adoption of such a law in Georgia can finally cross the country's ability to join the European Union. She called for the rejection of the bill and withdrawal of the candidate's status of Georgia, if the law is adopted.

The representative of the opposition forces in Georgia Nicolosis Gvaramy expressed serious outrage about the attempt of the Georgian Dream Party to extend the Law on Parliament for the third time, despite the broad protests of the country's citizens. This is especially dangerous in the period before the parliamentary elections planned for October this year. The adoption of this Law is primarily intended to suppress any expressions of political opposition and limit the activities of civil society and independent media.

Gwaramia also appealed to the European Union and the United States to support Georgia's democratic path in Europe. He expressed gratitude for the status of the EU candidate country and called on international partners to oppose the actions of the current government, which, he said, pursues a policy in accordance with the Kremlin's interests, ignoring the will of the people and threatening the process of integration of the country into the European Union.

In recent days, Tbilisi has witnessed mass protests of citizens against the law on "inaging", which was approved by Parliament a few days ago in the first reading.
