The smell of pigs forced the liner to land in Bermuda

The KL685 flight KLM, heading from Amsterdam to Mexico City, was forced to land in the Bermuda Islands because of an unexpected problem - a disgusting smell of live cargo, which was in the luggage compartment. In addition to 259 passengers, the aircraft transported about 100 live pigs. It was they who caused an unscheduled stop.

Six hours after the flight, the captain informed LF Airports of LF Wade Airport of the need for landing, as the smell was so flooded by the cabin and the salon that passengers and crews could not continue the journey without interruption. According to the captain, the situation was not critical, but limited stocks of oxygen required a quick solution to the problem.

After landing, the passengers were placed in local hotels, and the aircraft was ventilated for several hours. The smell of pigs so much on the plane that the flight to Mexico City continued only 30 hours. Pigs, meanwhile, spent two days on the island, where they looked after local veterinary staff.

The cargo was overloaded into a special cargo aircraft Boeing 777-200, which sent animals to their destination. However, it remains a mystery as the smell of animals could penetrate into the passenger salon, as well as whether their transportation was properly organized.

"We always take care of the welfare of animals and passengers," said the representatives of the island government who watched the pigs during their short "vacation."

Although 259 passengers had to be delayed, such an incident emphasizes the importance of proper transportation of live goods to avoid such situations in the future.
