The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, made a statement regarding the need to end the war with Russia in 2025, stressing that this should happen through diplomacy. He emphasized that the key condition for such negotiations is the strong position of Ukraine and the support of international partners.
"From our side, we must do everything so that this war ends next year. It ended diplomatically. And this, I think, is very important," said Zelensky.
The head of state emphasized the fact that Ukraine cannot remain alone with the aggressor country in negotiations. He noted that dialogue with Russia, in particular with its leader Vladimir Putin, is possible only under the conditions when Ukraine has a strengthened position.
"What can be the negotiations with the killer? If we talk simply with Putin, simply with a murderer, and if we are not strengthened by some important elements, then this is a losing status of negotiations for Ukraine at the entrance," the president said.
According to Zelenskyi, participation in negotiations in a weak position is unacceptable. Therefore, it is necessary to provide maximum support to allies and increase defense and diplomatic capabilities.
The President emphasized the importance of the position of the United States in the context of potential negotiations. He noted that the USA currently supports Ukraine and recognizes it as a victim of aggression, and Russia as a violator of international law.
"The position of the newly elected US President Donald Trump regarding Ukraine is very important. The United States should maintain its position that Ukraine is the victim and Russia is the aggressor. This should be one of the key points of any negotiations," Zelenskyy added.
