President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky explained the conditions under which martial law can be abolished in Ukraine. In an interview for the Unified News Program on January 2, he stressed that the most important prerequisite for this is the completion of the hot phase of war.
"If we manage to get the end of the hot stage of the war in a strong position for Ukraine - if we do it, we will have a strong army, a strong package of weapons, security guarantees - then we can think about the abolition of martial law in Ukraine," Zelensky said.
The President noted that the election is possible only after termination of martial law. This is due to the fact that the current conditions do not allow to ensure a full election process. When asked if he plans to run for the second presidential term, Zelensky replied that he had not yet made the final decision.
"I do not know how the war will end. If I do more than I can, then, then, we will probably look at this decision more positively," he said, adding that the second term is not his main purpose.
This statement of the President emphasizes the priority of the end of the war for the further political and democratic development of Ukraine. Only in the face of strong safety and stability can you talk about the restoration of electoral processes and other democratic procedures.
