The 90-year-old UK resident found an ancient treasure in Dorsset, a collection of 67 silver coins of the Drotgrig tribe, which is exceeding 2000 years. Experts evaluate the find of at least £ 20,000.
The opening was made by a man who wished to remain anonymous. In April 2022, he searched with a metal detector near Kranborn, when he came across coins that have been lying in the ground for more than two millennia. Initially, the pensioner found the penalties of Queen Victoria, but later came across a much more valuable find - a small silver coin of the Celtic Drotgrig tribe. This was the beginning of the opening of the full treasure of 67 coins, which lay near the fence wrapped. According to DIX Noonan Webb Elis Cullen, the condition of the coins indicates that they were practically not in circulation. This may indicate their ritual purpose - maybe coins were sacrifices to the gods during religious ceremonies. The tribe of the Drotiga lived in the south of England before the conquest of the British islands of the Roman Empire in the I century AD. Their coins are a rare archeological find that opens up new pages of ancient Britain's history.
The collection will be auctioned on May 29. It is expected that it will bring at least £ 20,000 - this is about one million hryvnias.
