Secretary General NATO Stoltenberg said the Defense Budget 18 of the 31 Alliance member of 2024 will reach 2% of GDP. He called an increase in the record, noting that in 2014 only three countries that are in NATO reached this threshold.
Stoltenberg also has a sharp criticism of former US President Donald Trump, who is fighting for a return to the White House. He stated that it would support Russia's attack on alliance states that do not spend sufficient sums on defense.
"Any hints that NATO allies will not protect each other, undermine our safety, including US security. They increase the risk of US and European servicemen," Secretary General said.
The decision to increase defense expenses up to 2% of GDP was made in 2014, after the annexation of Russia by Crimea and the seizure of territories in eastern Ukraine. Some states have exceeded this threshold - yes, Estonia spends 3% of GDP on defense.
Recall that a few days ago, the Estonia Foreign Intelligence Service prepared a report according to which Russia is preparing for a military confrontation with the west in the next decade. To restrain the Russian threat, it is proposed to create a powerful group in countries bordering on Russia.
"Russia has chosen the path of long -term confrontation. The Kremlin has been expecting a conflict with NATO in the near future. If we are not preparing, the likelihood of a Russian attack will increase significantly," Kaupo Rosin said significantly.
