According to a CNN report, on Friday, the administration of US President Joe Biden announced the allocation of a new urgent tranche of $400 million to Kyiv. This step shows Washington's support for Ukraine in the context of the worsening geopolitical situation in the region.
The package includes weapons that the Ukrainian authorities have long requested from allies, including missiles for Patriot air defense systems, new HIMARS MLRS and ammunition for them, Stinger MANPADS, artillery shells, BMPs and other equipment.
As the CNN article emphasizes, the new aid package was provided by the Biden administration using the so-called "presidential right of write-off" (PDA) - a mechanism for helping allies, which provides for the transfer of weapons to them directly from US stocks (rather than concluding contracts for the production of new ones).
Unlike other support channels, PDA allows you to start shipping weapons literally a few days after the relevant decision is made, CNN emphasizes.
