Argentina refuses to join BRICS after electing a new president

After Javier Milea was elected as the new president of Argentina, the country decided to abandon its intention to join the BRICS group. This was announced by Diana Mondino, the future head of Argentina's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on her Twitter account on Thursday, November 30. She emphasized that this decision is final and represents the position of the government of the new president.

"We will not join BRICS," she said.

Previously, it was planned that Argentina would be one of the six countries that will join BRICS from January 1, 2024. Argentina, Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia were invited to join the group at the group's summit held in South Africa in August this year.
