Ukrenergo, the operator of the electricity transmission system in Ukraine, reported that she does not see the threat of a blackout in the country.
Blackut is a major systemic accident that disrupts the balance between the available energy in the system and consumption, and Ukrenergo loses control over the work of the system. The company emphasized that blackout should not be confused with controlled shutdowns, which are carried out in order to balance the system in the face of electricity shortage.
Is blackout in Ukraine?
Ukrenergo does not provide for the possibility of a systemic accident in the power system of Ukraine or in some of its regions, except for possible massive Russian shelling.
In November 2022, Ukraine had already survived Blackout through rocket strikes from Russia, which resulted in the power of Rivne, South Ukrainian and Khmelnitsky NPP from the power grid. The Zaporizhzhya NPP has become a full blackout mode, which caused emergency shutdown of light in all regions. Electricity disappeared in Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Odessa, Chernihiv, Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Vinnitsa, Kropyvnytskyi and other cities, which led to disruptions with water, heating, mobile communication and internet, as well as stopping electric transport. However, in a few days of energy, more than 70% of power supply all over the country.
From 2022 to 2023, the Ukrainian power system withstood 15 rocket and 18 drones. In March 2024, a new wave of attacks began, which was lost up to 6 GW of generation. Now this figure is about 9 GW.
In April 2024, the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko stated that there would be no blackberry. "Unfortunately, there is no doubt that the enemy's attacks will continue. However, the energy system is integral. There will be no total blackout in the country," the minister said.
Due to the considerable number of infrastructure facilities in Kiev, light shutdown last longer than in other regions of the country.
