Europe is planning a complete rejection of Russian gas - the EU Commissioner for Energy

Dan Jorgensen, the newly appointed EU energy commissioner, has announced his intention to accelerate the phase-out of fossil fuels from Russia, particularly gas, as part of his plans for Europe's energy transformation. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, instructed Jorgensen to lower energy prices to restore the competitiveness of European industry, promote decarbonization of the economy and reduce dependence on energy imports from Russia.

Jørgensen emphasized the need to increase the use of renewable energy sources, expand energy networks, accelerate digitalization and introduce new technologies for energy storage, which will ensure the EU's energy independence. The commissioner also noted that despite the decrease in the share of Russian gas in EU supplies from 45% to 18%, this is still too much dependence. Its goal is to completely abandon Russian fuel by 2027.
