On May 28, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had a telephone conversation with Russia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov, during which Moscow called for "bona fide dialogue" with Ukraine. This was reported by a spokeswoman for US State Department Temmy Bruce.
According to her, Rubio congratulated the recent exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and Russia according to the formula "1000 to 1000", emphasizing the importance of humanitarian efforts in the midst of the war.
"The Secretary of State repeated the calls of President Trump for a constructive, conscientious dialogue with Ukraine as the sole path to end this war," Bruce said.
Washington emphasizes that peaceful settlement of the conflict is possible only through direct negotiations between the parties in compliance with international law and the principles of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
