Turkish President Recep TaiP Erdogan expressed his position on the detention of the Istanbul mayor, a representative of the opposition People's Republican Party (NRP) by the Mamamogl Ekrem, stating that the government would not interfere with political manipulations, which he said. The President's comment was published on March 21, 2025 through the TRT Haber press service, where Erdogan emphasized that the Turkish authorities were focused on his work and not on the manipulation of opposition forces.
The mammalla scram was detained in connection with the investigation into corruption and abuse in the management of Istanbul, which caused resonance among the Turkish public and in the opposition. The detention of the mayor, which became a political stumbling block, became part of the continuing struggle between Erdogan's government and the opposition forces, including the NRP, which has tried several times to raise the issue of corruption and inefficiency in management.
During his speech, Erdogan noted that the Turkish opposition uses the case of Mammalla to create "political manipulations". According to him, the opposition tries to present internal political strife and fight corruption as a common problem in the country, although in fact they have no support among the public for serious reforms.
"We do not have time on the opposition show. They try to create a problem for the whole country from these events. These are nothing more than political manipulations that have nothing to do with Turkey's real problems," the President emphasized.
Erdogan added that opposition policies, including the People's Republican Party, could not respond to allegations of corruption and other abuse raised by local authorities. According to him, even if they are trying to discuss these issues, this discussion is "no further theoretical considerations" because the opposition is not able to refute the facts of corruption in their ranks.
"If they claim that the diploma of immamoglu was properly obtained or that there is no corruption in the municipality, this issue can be discussed at the expert level. But they do not do so because they cannot refute these accusations," the Turkish President said.
As for the mammalla itself, Erdogan emphasized that his detention is a consequence of serious violations and abuses that should be considered in court. According to the President, the government will not allow such events to be used as political weapons opposition to achieve their own goals.
The detention of the mayor of Istanbul led to a sharp reaction from the opposition, which accused the authorities of pursuing political opponents and trying to undermine democratic processes in the country. However, Erdogan stressed that the Turkish government will not be distracted by these "political manipulations" and will continue to fulfill its duties by focusing on important strategic tasks.
"Our goal is to strengthen the economy, national security and social stability. We will not spend time on political games," the Turkish leader summed up.
