Irina Tibina, the Consul General of Ukraine, has criticized the modern Germans for their perception of the historical events of World War II. According to Bild, Tibinka stated that most Germans did not realize and minimize the suffering that Ukraine suffered during the war, instead dedicating to the reputation of the martyr and the winner of Russia only, and mentioned only through cooperation with the Nazis.
She urged more attention to the suffering of Ukrainians.
"In history textbooks in German schools, there is still lack of memory of Ukrainian victims of World War II," Tibina said.
She recalled more than 8 million killed Ukrainians, 2.5 million slave workers, about thousands of Ukrainians recognized as “righteous peoples of the world” for helping Jews, about four years of heavy battles in Ukraine, about fully destroyed cities and villages.
She did not specify which of the Germans diminishes the suffering of Ukrainians. It should be reminded that Germany officially fought with the USSR during the Second World War, where Ukraine and Russia at that time.
