In the election of President of Lithuania, the acting head of state, Hitanas Nauseda, won, ahead of his main competitor, Prime Minister Ingrid Shimonite. This result testifies to the confident support of Lithuania's population regarding the work and policy of Nausead during his first term of the presidency.
According to the data of the Chief Election Commission of Lithuania, Nauseda has received support for more than 74% of voters. His rival received 24% of the vote.
On the evening of May 26, the CEC of Lithuania estimated votes since 1853 precincts since 1895: Nausened 75.05%, and 23.43%in Shimonite. After 9:00 pm, President Lithuanian President Fredericas Jansonas announced that the election results were already clear - Nauseda won, Delfi wrote.
The rival Nauseda Shimonite, put forward by the "union of the Motherland - Christian Democrats of Lithuania", has already admitted the defeat and congratulated it on the victory, reports LRT.
"I would like to congratulate the chosen President of Lithuania," she told reporters.
Shimoni added that on Monday will return to the work of the premiere. According to her, the current position did not help her during the agitation in the elections.
Hitanas Nauseda in turn announced that he had achieved the second five -year term as President of Lithuania.
"The Lithuanian people have made me a great mandate of trust, and I am well aware that I will have to cherish this loan of trust. Now that I have a five -year experience, I believe that I can use this value correctly, first of all, to achieve the goals of the prosperity of all the people of Lithuania," he told journalists in Vilnius.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Nausead on the victory.
"Dear guitanas Nausedo, I congratulate you on re -election! You have always been with us in these difficult years. I appreciate your sincere support of Ukraine and I am sure that we will ensure freedom, peace and security in Ukraine, the Baltic States and our entire Europe by working together,"
