Greek islands struggle with water shortages during peak tourist season

The Greek islands are faced with water deficiency, despite the peak tourist season.

According to Reuters, on the island of Nazos, located between Athens and Crete, the main water tank is almost completely dry due to summer heat, which poses a threat to local agriculture.

On Carpathos, which between Crete and Rhodosome, local authorities have already set restriction on filling the pools, and in other islands consider installing installations to transform seawater into fresh water to overcome the deficit.

In this situation, much of the country did not receive full rainfall for months, and the dry spring and summer was preceded by the warmest winter in history.

Water consumption is increasing as tourists arrive in the country, which is an important source of income for local business.
