Israel carried out an airstrike in Lebanon, as a result of which the commander of the terrorist group Hamas, Samer Mahmoud al-Hajja, was killed. This was reported by the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) press service.
According to an official statement, the strike was carried out under the leadership of IDF intelligence and the Israeli army in the Sidon area. Al-Hajjah, a senior Hamas commander in Lebanon, was responsible for orchestrating terrorist attacks and rocket attacks from Lebanon into Israel. He also commanded military forces at the Ain al-Hilwa camp, where he recruited and trained fighters for attacks on Israel.
The strike came amid calls from the United States, Egypt and Qatar for Israel and Hamas to resume talks on ending the conflict in the Gaza Strip. The planning of massive attacks by Iran against Israel may have been delayed, which also affected the situation.
The new political leader of Hamas is Yahya Sinwar, an extremist known as the ideologue of the October 7 terrorist attacks. His appointment may indicate a continuation of active confrontation with Israel.
