The US has announced temporary suspension of duties on imports from Canada for 30 days. This decision was the result of a recent meeting of US President Donald Trump and Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Both sides agreed to joint steps to strengthen control over the border and fight drug trafficking.
According to Trudeau, Canada invests $ 1.3 billion in the border security program. This includes the purchase of new helicopters, the modernization of technologies and the increase in the number of staff to combat illegal drug trafficking, including fentanyl. In total, nearly 10,000 Canadian border guards are involved in the project.
Among the main measures that Canada plans to take is the creation of a special position of "King Fentanyl", the introduction of drug cartels in the list of terrorist organizations and establishing round -the -clock control abroad. Initiatives joint with the United States also involve the creation of a shock group to combat organized crime and fentanyl.
These actions will be accompanied by the financing of exploration of $ 200 million, which will be aimed at combating fentanyl and organized criminal networks.
